Safety and Crime Prevention Tips When Living on a Farm

If you live on a farm somewhere out in the boonies, there are some special safety concerns that you should be aware of. Crops, expensive farm equipment, and livestock can be targets for potential thieves. Not only that, vandals can make it their leisure time to destroy such things in a short amount of time. The following is a checklist to see if you are at risk for the crime of theft or vandalism:

  • Are the areas around the farmyard as well as the outsides of the buildings well-lit at night?
  • Are all the fences in good, working order or in need of repair?
  • Are all your farm tools and equipment marked with identification numbers or serial numbers?
  • Do you count your livestock on a regular basis?
  • Do you have less than five people working for you throughout the year?
  • Do you conduct background checks on your employees prior to employing them on your farm?
  • Do you lock up the storage sheds and grain bins at night?
  • Do the access roads have gates?
  • Does each of your livestock have tattoos?
  • Is all of the farm equipment, big and small, locked up at night?

No doubt it is a bigger responsibility to maintain home security on your own farm than it is if you owned your own house. Nevertheless, personal safety and home security measures should not be overlooked when living on a farm. You should observe all these tips when safeguarding your farm and the other property you have. By doing so, you make it harder for a crook to rip off your personal property or a vandal from tearing it apart.

You worked hard for your farm tools and your crops.  It only makes sense to take the time to lock up your personal property to thwart the potential for any crime to occur.

A Quick Look at Identity Theft

Identity theft or ID theft refers to a criminal offense in which a thief steals critical information of an individual that includes a Social Security number and a driver’s license number. If an identity thief is able to obtain such crucial information, he can start to pretend to be another person. Stolen information may be used to obtain money, services or goods under a victim’s name, which is a reason you should use protection against identity theft.

Pretending to be someone else for immigration or other purposes can take place in cases where an identity thief has been supplied with fake documents through the crime of ID theft. One of the largest identity theft issues is that more often than not, crimes committed by a criminal are usually ascribed to the the individual who had been victimized.

True name ID theft and account takeover are the 2 main kinds of identity theft. With true name identity theft, the identity thief uses another individual’s private data in order to obtain new accounts. Such accounts include a checking account to get blank checks, new charge card account or a mobile telephone service.

Account takeover, on the other hand, is a type of ID theft in which an identity thief makes use of private data that has been stolen and is used to get access to another individual’s banking accounts. Quite often, the criminal will take advantage of the illegally obtained data to be able to purchase additional goods and at the same time changes the victim’s billing address so that the victim never sees the bills with fraudulent charges.

Since no real verification is performed when purchasing online, criminals are finding it easy to buy items online. All that is required is just the credit card information and they are good to go. Another excellent example why you should use a best identity theft protection.

Some identity thieves hack databases to obtain personal data. ID theft of this kind, however, is not frequently done unlike the well known techniques such as looking at a person while making a financial transaction or going through the trash for some receipts.

You should always be aware when filling out forms with a lot of personal information at the Department of Motor Vehicles or other places. There are criminals waiting to obtain your personal data which often times leads to ID theft. Invest in a protect identity product and protect yourself today!

How to Choose the Right Private Investigation Company

Not sure what to look for in a private investigator? We present the following outstanding article; while it was initially written for attorneys, the same strategy should apply to all potential investigations customers:

CHOOSING AN EXCELLENT PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR

To effectively advocate a client’s position, one of the many important decisions an attorney will make is to hire a competent private investigator. Private investigators uncover the truth and collect facts in a variety of ways: surveillance may uncover evidence of a malingering insurance claimant, provide crucial evidence in child custody matters or expose dishonest business partners; background investigations and advanced data mining techniques are essential components of due diligence and the discovery of complex associations; skip tracing determines the whereabouts of missing witnesses, family members or those who cannot be located for service and field interviews with recorded statements save time and money when preparing for potential civil litigation or a criminal defense trial.  Obviously, skilled private investigators do so much more than “the basics” and offer a considerable array of additional services too.  I believe that everyone in the legal field would agree that an experienced and professional investigator can oftentimes mean the difference between a successful outcome for your client or a crushing verdict in the courtroom.

As an experienced and tenured paralegal, and now office manager for a highly regarded  private investigations agency, I have a great deal of experience is choosing investigators with whom to work and would like to provide you with four critical qualities to consider prior to selecting a private investigation agency when the need arises:

Licensing and Insurance. Unless an investigator is actually in the employ of your law firm, many states require a license to practice private investigation and have a strict set of requirements that both investigators and agencies must meet in order to acquire licensing.  A very few states still do not require state licensing for private investigators, so choose investigators in these states carefully.  And while it may not be required by state law, ensure that the agency you select maintains a professional liability insurance policy with errors and omissions coverage. This will help to protect you and your client in instances where an investigator is accused of professional disregard, not to mention that carrying industry specific insurance is the trademark of being a steadfast professional.

Experience and Background. As an example, while the state of Arizona requires a comprehensive background check and conducts professional experience verification before issuing a state PI license, it is not uncommon when working assignments in other states to find that the investigator working on behalf of the other party has had no professional experience, or is a “part timer” at best, and it is often very easy to exploit their work product to our advantage.  Verify references, credentials, work experience, educational background and additional industry-specific training received.  Private investigation is a profession in which experience, training and resourcefulness matter most!  Lastly, contact other attorneys and other professionals who have used private investigators and obtain recommendations; there is no substitute for a referral! Nearly all of our new cases come from either an attorney referral or recommendation by a past customer.

Communication. Time is critical! Does the investigator answer the phone or provide a means to reach him or her at critical times?Do they return calls in a timely manner and keep meetings?  Request written communication or a report sample; is it professional, organized and free of errors? What does the investigator’s website say? Does it portray professionalism and communicate a message with which you are comfortable being associated?

Ethics. Ethics is acting with an consciousness of the call for complying with regulations, such as State and Federal law, the traditions and expectations of the community, the values of morality, the policies of the business and such general concerns as the needs of others and fairness.   Ethics gives us a model with which to make decisions and a method to evaluate other people’s behavior as well.  It is this concept of judging others that ethics becomes the foundation for professional conduct and therefore, inseparable from our profession. What your investigator does and says will ultimately be a reflection upon you.

Quality investigators can be uncommon; however, if you follow these easy guidelines and incorporate common sense, you may just find a perfect partnership with a professional investigations agency that will become the basis of your own legal dream team.

Good luck to you!

About Us

After under going a total laryngectomy operation in July 1995, as a permanent cure for cancer of the larynx, I had to learn to speak again at the age of 49, and till to-day continue to speak with the help of a voice prosthesis.

In 2003, things so happened, that I faced the imminent threat of not being able to use a voice prosthesis any more. When this happens I would become a ‘mute’, totally speechless, creating the need for me to find alternative employment wherein I could work without having to talk.

In May 2004 an American company StoresOnline Inc, of Orem Utah, held a workshop in Melbourne, Australia, promoting ‘Internet Marketing’, and their web hosting services. This was what I was looking for. As an Internet Merchant, emails and published WebPages would do all my talking for me. I purchased a package of 6 websites.

To the question ‘what do I sell on these websites’, was told to try and sell things that I had a passion for, understood, and used a lot. My passions are Animals, especially Cats, Children, Photography and Gift giving, not necessarily in that order.

When I started this venture in May 2004, I discovered that Australians were not yet ready to trust the Internet as a Market Place. Building websites to sell consumer products to the Australian market would have been pointless.

The best International Market I could find was the 48 continental states of the USA. The first site that went live in August 2004 was www.catbedandtoy.com, and gradually the other five followed.

All the products I sell are purchased from manufacturers and distributors in the USA. They send what I buy directly to my customers, cutting out the middle men, thereby making it feasible for me to sell at discount prices.

This is a business venture and the only means of livelihood for me and my dependants. This eing the case, I am Honest and Professional, qualities without which, I cannot succeed in this highly competitive business.

I now own numerous websites. All sites apart from the first SIX have been recently added to help promote the first six sites and to augment my income. Currently my two most important websites are, my blog ‘Internet Marketing Works’, and my list building site www.dcostandcosta.com.

www.govtrecords.net is dedicated to providing quality information on the subject of how to use Government Records to find the information you need.

Here you will find helpful reviews, valuable information, tips and much more.

This site is in the format of a ‘weblog’ so that each time I post new information; it will come to the top of the front page. This means that you can check back here frequently to see new updates to the information found here.

You can navigate through the site by using the menus on the sides of the page. Also don’t hesitate to follow the links you see in bold throughout each post to learn more about the product being spoken about.

I hope you find the information I provide valuable and helpful.

All the best,

Noel Benjamin D’Costa
